Employment, one of the most ailing sectors in Morocco, has suffered a series of setbacks that have direct repercussions on society and economy.
The new project of the Moroccan phosphates company ?Office Ch?rifien des Phosphate?, known by its French acronym as OCP, laid the groundwork for a new form of cooperation between the private and the public sector in terms of employment.
The OCP launched last year the operation ?OCP Skills?. The organizers could fund 52 projects for small and medium companies in the cities that host the OCP industrial compounds.
The OCP offers 11,000 beneficiaries the opportunity to pursue a training delivered by the Vocational Training Office and other institutions namely the institute for Post office and communication, the Mohammedia School of Engineers, the Moroccan school of Bridges and Roads and Casablanca School of Engineers.
These beneficiaries will participate in 647 workshops for orientation in addition to monthly full scholarships that varies between 1,200 and 2,000 MAD a month [1 USD = 8.6 MAD]. They would also benefit from training sessions in an array of fields.
The OCP aims at empowering graduates with relevant skills in addition to enhancing their employability within the OCP area of expertise or other sectors.
To this effect, The OCP brokered many agreements with local and international partners. The number of cooperation agreements has reached 26 deals. Thus, they launched 26 action plans that would be implemented in Khouribga. It is of note that two centers specialized in the ?OCP skills? operation will be soon opened to public.
The whole budget of the ?OCP skills? operation mounts up to 400 million MAD. The project is expected to create over 5,800 job opportunities in response to the growing demand on industrial and social services in the industrial zones.
The OCP had also launched in 2010 the OCP Innovation Fund for Agriculture ( IFA) to promote investment in agriculture and food industry. The project budget is estimated to 200 Million Dirhams. The IFA is directed towards all projects liable to create job opportunities and sustainable development. The entrepreneurs selected will also benefit from coaching and counseling in management provided by experts.
The Cherifan Group stands out also as a pioneer in green investment. It has laid the foundation of two concepts ?Green Mine? ad ?Green city? in the regions where it has mining projects. The OCP intervention includes the creation of green areas in cooperation with the local authorities.
The OCP, a state owned Moroccan company created in 1920, is the world?s biggest exporter of phosphates and derivatives.
The company is responsible for the production and sale of Moroccan phosphate resources, extracted from Bengu?rir, Khouribga, and Youssoufia mines, in central Morocco, totaling 85 billion cubic meters of reserves, and Boucraa in southern Morocco, about 1 billion cubic meters
